Statement of Intent
for my print advertisement, I will have the Advertising Standards Authority regulations at the forefront of my project as it’s a political assassination documentary. On my billboard I will not have any details that may be distressing for young people and those who are not the target audience as the billboards would be displayed in public like in towns and city centres. As a result I will not have a dead body, blood or pointed weapon at the audience. In addition, I will not have a title or tag line that may frighten anyone about political dictatorships and censorship’s. Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in young audiences 16-25 who have been actively engaged with political and historical documentaries and present politics where as before political documentaries where targeted at and 30-50 year olds.
I will be representing two different age brackets and both men and women. There will be some stereotypes due to the theme of the documentary however the same character does not conform to the gender stereotypes. With my history knowledge, in dictatorships women are typically forced to wear long skirts or dress. However as her assassin persona she will be wearing trousers to suggest that she does not want to conform to gender expectations.
For the billboards designs I will use a bold San serif font as it will be easy to read from a distance and looks professional. My title will be on the lines of “ The End Of A Reign” with a tag line “How the ruthless dictator came to an end”. Due to the heavy nature themes I will use a dark colour scheme of mostly blacks as black represents evil and death. When taking the photos I will be focusing on shadows as they symbolise that someone or something is being hidden for this documentary it’s some of the policies that were opposed onto minorities and living conditions as well as the assassins true identity.
